Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

The Pride in Place Resource Hub aims to be usable by as many people as possible. UrbanCat is designing the Hub towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We have not yet commissioned a formal independent audit, so we do not claim full compliance. Accessibility is checked as part of building each new page and tool rather than as a one-off exercise.

What we have done

• Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, including the map, filters and dialogs.
• A “Skip to main content” link appears as soon as you press Tab.
• Text and interface colours are tested against WCAG AA contrast ratios.
• Headings follow a logical order so screen reader users can navigate by structure.
• Images carry meaningful alternative text, and decorative artwork is hidden from screen readers.
• Tap targets on phones and tablets are sized to be comfortable to hit.
• Animation is reduced automatically if your device asks for reduced motion.
• Pages reflow without horizontal scrolling down to a 320px screen width.

You should be able to

• Navigate the whole site using a keyboard alone.
• Zoom text without losing content or functionality.
• Use screen-reader technology to read pages and tools.
• Understand what every link and button does.
• Complete forms using clear, accessible labels and error messages.
• Read and use the content on both mobile and desktop.

Downloadable resources

We are committed to making the documents we publish accessible wherever practicable: tagged headings, a logical reading order, real text rather than images of text, and a plain-English structure. If you need one of our resources in a different format, ask and we will provide it.

Known limitations

We are continuing to review the accessibility of the Hub and its downloadable resources. We will update this statement as testing identifies improvements or known limitations. The points below are what we currently know.

• The interactive community map is inherently visual. Every community on the map is also listed in the directory list view, which is fully accessible, and the list view can be used instead of the map at any point.
• Some documents in the resource library are PDFs. We tag headings and reading order in our own resources, but we cannot control the accessibility of documents published by other organisations that we link to.
• Charts in the capacity self-assessment show scores visually. The same scores are always given as text and are included in the PDF export.

Content published elsewhere

This Hub links to guidance and documents hosted by MHCLG, local authorities and other organisations. Those pages are outside our control and are covered by their own accessibility statements.
