Learning from places already underway
Pride in Place in Practice
Pride in Place is still a relatively new programme. The first 75 Phase 1 places submitted their plans to MHCLG in late 2025 and moved into delivery from April 2026.
These examples are not presented as “best practice” or models to copy. It is too early for that.
Instead, we have selected three places whose published plans and engagement processes offer useful lessons for Neighbourhood Boards developing their own approach.
Each has taken a slightly different route from community engagement and evidence to long-term priorities and investment.
Use them for ideas. Learn from their approach. Then build something specific to your own place.

Different places. Different approaches.
There is no single template for a good Pride in Place Plan.
Rotherham, Hartlepool and Chesterfield have different communities, economies, challenges and opportunities. Their plans should therefore look different.
What they do have in common is a recognisable journey:
- Listen
- Understand
- Prioritise
- Invest
- Deliver
- Learn
Your job isn't to replicate another place's plan.
It is to build a defensible line between what your community is telling you, what your evidence demonstrates, the outcomes you want to achieve and the investments you ultimately choose to make.
